Make no mistake about it, businesses across the country are still struggling to recover from America’s supply chain crisis, which the National Association of Chemical Distributors (NACD) has been sounding the alarm about for over two years now. Chemical distributors have been hit with increased delays, costs, detention, and demurrage fees, skyrocketing fuel prices, increased cost of equipment, and so much more.
NACD places the highest priority on the health, safety, and security of employees, communities, and the environment. For our members, this means complying with all relevant regulations and legislation, and adhering to the tenets and meeting the requirements of NACD Responsible Distribution®, a mandatory third-party verified management system that lets members demonstrate their commitment to continuous performance improvement in every phase of chemical storage, handling, transportation, and disposal.
If you think the pace of global regulatory attention devoted to per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFAS) has greatly accelerated, you would be spot on. PFAS regulation is as globally ubiquitous as the very class of chemicals the term “PFAS” is defined to include, and the pace is unlikely to abate.
Employee training is a critical component of any chemical distribution business. Given the industry’s nature and supply chain position, ensuring employees are appropriately trained and adequately prepared to carry out their designated duties should always be a priority.
College – a quintessential moment for most young adults. From many kids’ first moments of independence to developing their academic passions, this season of life is filled with an explosion of possibilities and new challenges. For Chad E. Foster, he faced a new trial: going blind at the age of 21.
Since hemp was removed from the Schedule I drug designation at the federal level with the passage of the 2018 Farm Bill, Cannabidiol (CBD) has grown into a multi-billion dollar industry across the United States. However, the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) maintains authority over hemp-derived food and drug products, including CBD. The FDA still classifies CBD as a Schedule I drug.
With waste management being an extremely complex and increasingly important aspect of chemical distribution, we’re pleased to introduce a new two-part NACD U course that aims to clean up any confusion about this topic and its myriad rules and requirements.
The course is split into two very distinct parts— the first providing an overview on managing solid waste with the second focusing exclusively on hazardous waste. It’s ideal for anyone starting to deal with this issue or who needs a refresher.
In years past, the NACD Washington Fly-In has been a cornerstone of our association’s advocacy efforts, helping to bring together members from across the nation to meet with their Members of Congress and educate them about the issues impacting chemical distributors. We’ve missed the opportunity to conduct these important meetings in person over the past couple of years. But this July, 50 NACD members are heading to our nation’s capital to talk about the biggest issues facing businesses like ours: the resurrected superfund tax and trade barriers that are driving up our costs.
As part of the Biden Administration’s focus on climate action through the executive branch, the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) is proposing rule amendments that would require the companies it regulates to include certain climate-related information in their registration statements and periodic reports, such as on Form 10-K.
Changes are coming for Responsible Distribution early next year.
Just as the chemical distribution industry – and indeed, our membership – continues to evolve and adapt with the times, it’s important that our trusted environmental, health, safety, and security program does the same.
