As one of ACD’s core pillars, advocacy is central to everything we do in support of the chemical distribution industry. We take this responsibility seriously as the regulatory landscape of chemical distribution is constantly changing. Throughout the year, we partner with lawmakers to help us advance policies that support the competitiveness of our industry and the countless other industries our members serve.
That’s why last year we created the ChemPolicy Champion Award to recognize key policymakers who have stood with our members and the supply chain partners we support. During this year’s Fly-In, ACD members traveled to Capitol Hill to recognize and present Senator Shelley Moore Capito (R-WV) with ACD’s second annual ChemPolicy Champion Award.
Since the beginning of her tenure in Congress, Senator Capito has been an unwavering and reliable champion of policies critical to the success of our industry. She is the founder and co-chair of the Chemistry Caucus, where she highlights the critical role that chemical distribution plays in the economic prosperity of her state and the country. Her leadership has been essential in advancing vital initiatives such as the reauthorization of the Chemical Facility Anti-Terrorism Standards program, necessary reforms to the Toxic Substances Control Act, and efforts to clarify per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances liability, each contributing to a more secure, efficient, and resilient chemical supply chain.
Senator Capito has also supported policies to ease overly burdensome regulatory initiatives and support the safe and efficient transportation of essential chemical products to Americans across the nation.
Upon receiving the award, Senator Capito stated, “I’m honored to accept ACD’s ChemPolicy Champion Award and appreciate their recognition of my efforts as Chairman of the Environment and Public Works Committee and a co-chair of the Chemistry Caucus. I will continue my work to address challenges that impact the review of new chemicals and the safety of our communities, as well as the reauthorization of important programs.”
Thank you, Senator Capito, for your steadfast commitment to our industry, and we look forward to continuing to work with you in the years to come.
