Arlington, VA –Today, Alliance for Chemical Distribution (ACD) President and CEO Eric R. Byer issued the following statement after the Heat Workforce Standards Act of 2025 (H.R. 6213) passed out of the House Committee on Education and Workforce:
“A one-size-fits-all approach to heat-related injuries and illnesses standards cannot adequately account for the diverse conditions and operational realities of different work environments. An exceedingly broad scope will only draw enforcement and compliance assistance resources away from the most at-risk industries and workers. The Heat Workforce Standards Act of 2025 will ensure that Occupational Safety and Health Administration’s (OSHA) rulemaking is precise, and we are pleased to see this important legislation advance out of committee.
“ACD applauds Representative Mark Messmer (R-IN) for spearheading this effort and thanks the broad list of 60 co-sponsors who recognize the need to avoid burdensome and confusing overregulation of businesses across the country. We encourage the full House of Representatives to take up this bill and provide businesses with much needed clarity.”
Last year, ACD submitted comments to OSHA urging the agency to reconsider the proposed heat illness standard and outlined the diligent steps ACD members take to protect employees from heat-related injuries and illnesses. Earlier this year, ACD joined 50 organizations in support of similar Senate legislation to prevent onerous regulatory compliance burdens from being imposed on American businesses.
