For 250 years, Americans have built, invented, and innovated. Behind nearly every breakthrough, every shipment and every success story is a network of people helping move this country forward: members of the chemical distribution industry.
Though often unseen, our industry has been critical to America’s success and is an active contributor in shaping its future. From supporting farmers and builders as our country grew to supplying the materials behind today's medicines, electronics, and advanced manufacturing, ACD members have been there every step of the way, safely and responsibly delivering essential chemical products.
As mostly small and family-owned businesses, our members reflect the entrepreneurial spirit that built America into what it is today: local employers creating good-paying jobs, dedicated professionals ensuring essential products arrive safely and reliably, and trusted partners contributing to the success of businesses of every size in almost every industry sector.
And while our work happens behind the scenes, its impact is felt by every American, every day. The chemical distribution industry serves more than 750,000 customers across nearly every sector of the economy, generating approximately 335,00 American jobs. In total, our industry generates a direct economic impact of more than $41 billion.
But anniversaries are not just about looking back – they’re also about thinking ahead. As we look toward the next 250 years, our nation’s success will depend on strong supply chains, skilled workers, and the small businesses that keep our economy moving. From breakthroughs in artificial intelligence and biotechnology to indispensable infrastructure and energy, today’s necessities and tomorrow’s innovations will require dependable access to the chemicals that make it all possible. This is why lawmakers and regulators must advance policies and reforms that support the small businesses and skilled professionals powering a resilient supply chain and building the workforce of tomorrow.
America 250 is an opportunity to recognize the people out of the spotlight whose work has helped our nation grow through the decades. Their names may not dot history books, but the contributions of the dedicated professionals of the chemical distribution industry are visible in the products Americans rely on, the communities they serve, and the innovation they help sustain. As the country celebrates its 250-year history and looks forward to the future, we are proud to help write the next chapter in the great American story.
