At ACD, we are committed to creating a diverse and inclusive community where there are equal opportunities for all. Our commitment to this work is central to our mission of enhancing the professionalism and stewardship of the chemical distribution industry. We believe in fostering an equitable and empowered community to drive our industry forward. ACD prohibits discrimination based on various characteristics such as race, ethnicity, religion, ancestry, citizenship status, age, disability, sex, marital status, veteran status, sexual orientation, and more. We uphold this policy throughout all aspects of employment, including recruitment, hiring, placement, promotion, transfer, training, compensation, benefits, employee activities, and general treatment.
Recognizing a lack of diversity throughout the science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) workforce, in November of 2020, the American Chemistry Council (ACC), American Institute of Chemical Engineers (AIChE), Chemours, and HBCU Week Foundation partnered to establish the Future of STEM Scholars Initiative (FOSSI). This national industry-wide program seeks to increase the number of underrepresented professionals in the STEM workforce by providing scholarships to students pursuing preferred STEM degrees at Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCUs). FOSSI is dedicated to supporting those STEM Scholars who would otherwise not have access to a STEM education by eliminating financial barriers. Learn more about FOSSI.
On July 31, 2023, FOSSI is set to welcome its third class of scholarship recipients, consisting of 132 talented future HBCU students pursuing STEM degrees. To celebrate this milestone, they're launching the new #FOSSIProud campaign, aiming to engage students, sponsors, HBCUs, and stakeholders by encouraging them to share why they are proud of FOSSI. We invite ACD members who share our vision of promoting diversity and inclusivity in STEM to consider becoming a supporter of FOSSI. Contact us to learn more about how you can contribute and become a proud supporter of FOSSI through ACD.

We believe DEIA holds the key to shaping the future of the chemical industry, just as it does in every other sector. With this in mind, we proudly offer the ACD’s Emerging Leaders program, designed to cultivate the next generation of diverse industry leaders. This program focuses on supporting participants from different backgrounds within the chemical distribution industry, empowering them to grow in their leadership skills so they can thrive within their companies and contribute their unique perspectives.
